Some time ago Mike said the rule that forbids playing as Sonic and Tails in Sonic charts could change in the future. This issue applies to at least two games (Sonic 2 for Genesis and Sonic Advance for Game Boy Advance), so we should debate it.

I think manipulating Tails is fair, so I voted yes.

Until this issue is resolved, ignore the rule related to this that I suggested for Sonic Advance because I suggested it just to be coherent with the rule for Sonic 2 for Genesis.

RULING (by Rules Committee): The Sonic+Tails combo may be used on Sonic charts, but Tails may never come under direct player control. (In other words, don't touch controller 2!)

If you state that Tails' must be controlled by the AI, then I dont think much would change

Err it would, see the nuts and bolts in Metropolis for instance.

I am of the opinion that for games in which it is default it should be allowed, otherwise not.  This is of course overcomplicated and annoying, so I also sympathise with either total ban or total allowance.

I have no problem with S&T being added, but I suggest you clarify in the rules that playing as just Sonic is still allowed as well.  We need to be more specific on what can be used for which charts.

I vote yes, but make it a separate chart.
Even without player control, it's possible to perform glitches not possible with Sonic or Tails alone, and some of them (ice cap bug anyone?) can be SO benefical it will simply be unfair in a Sonic or a Tails chart. (To get onto the ice block without airlifting, you have to damage yourself so that you land on a block. Then Tails will automatically break it.)

I voted no cause having help could affect the gameplay a little bit, but a little could make or break a record.

And for S3&K; Sandopolis Zone Act 2 (with the sand rising), Hidden Palace (With the hidden monitors before the teleport), Sky Sanctuary (with skipping the mini-bosses) and Death Egg Act 1 (with the access to the shortcut that leads to a bottomless pit) can all be affected (and I'm sure in other places too, but I'm too lazy to boot up the ROM :P)

These would all require a second player to control Tails, which remains illegal under the new rule.
